How to Select Cabinets, Countertops & Flooring

Whether you're remodeling or building new construction, there are a few things to consider when choosing cabinets, countertops and flooring for your home.
1. Set your budget. You will be much happier at the end of your project if you stay within your means.
2. Choose your syle to fit your needs.
3. Ask friends and neighbors who they recommend to work with. You want to deal with a business that will work within your budget, listen to your wants and desires and most importantly, be honest and dependable.

The next step in the process is selecting design, materials and then pricing what you WANT or your dream materials against what is within your budget and still quality and pleasing to you.

Once you have the design and materials picked, you can get a practical quote and decide if you can add some of your dream items into the mix. Your designer must listen to what you want, see what you have to work with and appreciate your budget. If you have a contractor involved as well, they should also be willing to work with you on what you want and what your limitations may be. Honesty and dependability are essential in establishing the relationship with these 'employees' that will be trusted to be in your home with or without you. If possible, get referrals from people you know or ask for references.

Thinking these things through will help you determine if you are ready to upheave your whole life to remodel or build a new home. Keep in mind, you are the customer and you have the right to get what you want, but there may be reasons why something won't work the way you want it, and if your designer and contractor are not afraid to tell you- they are probably doing so for good reason. A good working relationship is something that makes the whole process more worthwhile and the next time you consider doing a project, you will be more likely to work with the same people- you know you can count on them.
